the first edition of The Green fairy Book by Andew Lang, the third in a collection of stories from all over the world, including Spain, China, Greece, and Prussia. it has stories about Prince Narcissus and the Princess Portentilla, The Three Little Pigs by Joseph Jacobs, the first english publication of The Story of Hok Lee and the Dwarfs, and Allerleirauh; or, The Many Furred Creature by the Brothers Grimm.
Andrew Lang was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and anthroplogist. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales and the Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews, which are named after him.
The Green Fairy Book is especially notable because Andrew Lang claimed in the preface that it was going to be the last in the series. this ended up not being true as he went on to write 9 more books in the Fairy Books of Many Colors series.
This book is in excellent condition for it's age, it has mild wear and tear on the spine and cover, but the gold leafing on the pages and covers is still intact.
